During the visit on Thursday, Harris is expected to praise Cheney for breaking with her party and endorsing her over former President Donald Trump. Cheney and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, have both endorsed Harris for president.

“As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” CheneyWhen Cheney was in Congress, she was one of the most right-leaning members. This will be Cheney’s first campaign event alongside Harris. Cheney endorsed and recently appeared with Rep. Colin Allred , who is running to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz . In 1854, meetings in a Ripon schoolhouse led to the creation of the Republican Party. The schoolhouse is now a museum in town commemorating the history. Cheney was born in Madison, Wisconsin, but grew up in Wyoming and Virginia.

Harris’s visit will be her fifth to the state since entering the presidential race and her first in the northeastern side of the state. After President Joe Biden exited the presidential race, Harris started her campaign with a visit to, Trump flipped the state red by a little more than 27,000 votes, and Biden flipped the state back to blue by 20,000 votes in 2020.
