New research published by ESRIDublin compares relative standards of living in the Republic of Ireland and the UK

The data suggests that by 2019 the Irish standard of living was 8% above the UKNew research has sought to compare relative standards of living in the Republic of Ireland and the UK.

However Irish GDP is heavily distorted by the activities of multinational companies, so an alternative measure known as gross national income is now most commonly used to assess Irish economic output. By 2007 the Irish standard of living was up to 10% higher than in those countries but Ireland's banking and property crisis had a dramatic effect.
