BREAKING | NSC pass rate anouncedIt is up by 3.7 percentage points. The number of bachelor passes has increased 8.9 percentage points, and also diploma passes. She says there were 326 824 girls in matric, 253 660 boys. She says there was respective increase."We are retaining more girls than boys," but boys are performing better. Motshekga says they can"proudly report" that there was a 95% pass rate for pupils on social grants and those incarcerated.

She says 757 630 pupils were retained from Grade 1 to Grade 12 out of some 1 million, which shows a"great survival rate".She speaks of pupils with special needs, saying the government has in the past years has tracked their performance. She says more than 100 000 pupils with special needs who registered for exams last year. There were many of them who opted to write seven subjects rather than the compulsory five.

She goes on to say:"The devastating effect of Covid-19 continued to be devastating," Motshekga said the trajectory of improvement of marks was disrupted by Covid-19.Motshekga says the examinations went smoothly for the most part, saying the relative success of the process countrywide shows the"maturing" of the administration. 58m ago

There were 752 003 full-time students enrolled to write the NSC exams and 168 631 part-time students. More students wrote in 2022 than in 2021 , Motshekga says.
