Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a homicide after a driver was found dead early Tuesday morning following a crash on the Far Northeast Side. CONVERSE, Texas - A young man died early Tuesday morning after a possible shootout and a high-speed crash in a Far Northeast Side neighborhood.
Deputies said the driver had sustained a gunshot wound to his left side before the vehicle crash and was pronounced dead shortly after 3:50 a.m. A nearby homeowner reported hearing the crash and stepping outside, where they saw the two vehicles involved. The homeowner pulled the driver from the car and began life-saving measures, but the victim was already unresponsive when deputies arrived. Investigators found signs of a shooting a few houses down from the crash site, with evidence indicating shots were fired from both the street and a nearby residence. A handgun was recovered in front of the home, which remains secured while deputies await a search warrant. Several people at the residence were detained for questioning but have not cooperated with authorities. The deceased a young man was driving a vehicle reported stolen around 10 p.m. Monday. Officials believe he and the occupants of the nearby home had been involved in an ongoing feud. Deputies said the victim drove at a high rate of speed after being shot, crashed into a parked car with enough force to push it across two properties. Skid marks indicated he was traveling in excess of 70–80 mph in the residential neighborhood. Authorities have closed off the area as the investigation continues, and four to five people have been taken in for questioning.
