This year’s theme is “The Year of Indigenous Languages: Promoting and Deepening a Human Rights Culture”.

In March 1960, the Sharpeville community embarked on a march to protest against pass laws. Apartheid police shot and killed 69 protesters and the tragedy came to be known as the Sharpeville Massacre.
