Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan may be facing a challenge from Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll in her bid to replace Daniel Andrews after his shock resignation on Tuesday. Follow all the action in our live blog.

By Joseph Dunstan

Around Bendigo, there are mixed thoughts on what a Jacinta Allan premiership might mean for the region and state. Bendigo Senior Secondary College principal Dale Pearce said having a premier who was based in one of the regional centres would be wonderful for Victoria."I think it does ensure that the issues that matter to us, not just in Bendigo but other regional centres, are going to be heard in Melbourne," Mr Pearce said.

He said he'd had a bit to do with Ms Allan in her capacity as a local member in the past 16 or 17 years, including the redevelopment of the old Bendigo jail in to the Ulumbarra Theatre."I think she would certainly bring her own style to the role of premier, if that's the way things turn out."On the local ABC talkback lines, issues around regional infrastructure, potholes and integrity are being raised.

Daniel from Woodend reckoned integrity would be one of the key issues for Ms Allan if she secures the top job, pointing to concerns flagged by outgoing IBAC boss Robert Redlich.
