Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan says union behaviour is “thuggish” and “unacceptable”; Albanese says more action needed to clean up CFMEU; Biden says Americans need to “lower the temperature” on their politics. Follow for updates.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan says she will ask the federal government to exercise its powers under the Fair Work Act to review and, if necessary, terminate all CFMEU enterprise bargaining agreements on Victorian construction sites. It comes after a joint investigation by The Australian Financial Review, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and 60 Minutes found underworld figures and bikies have infiltrated major Victorian and NSW construction projects.
Allan says she will take “all the necessary steps” to ensure workplaces across Victoria are safe and productive. “We will be looking at how we can toughen anti-bikie laws in the state. We want to make it easier for police, for the courts, to be able to prevent certain individuals from associating with each other,” Allan says in a press conference.
