Curious to hear thoughts on the kicking competition, as well as what he saw on film from Andy Kotelnicki’s offense.Franklin’s opening statement starts with saying the film was good, about what they anticipated. Thought the defense “really played well,” a step up from last year’s WVU game, and thinks more people should be talking about it. Listed a bunch of stats, including third downs, rushing yards and takeaways. Only one they weren’t better in was sacks, he said.
Said penalties, and overall communication, are areas for improvement moving forward. Had some substitution errors that led to burning timeouts on all three phases.“Bigger, more physical team than I anticipated,” Franklin said of Bowling Green. Added head coach Scott Loeffler and quarterback Connor Bazelak, formerly at Indiana, have some experience in the Big Ten.
“Overall, I thought his first game as a full-time defensive end was very disruptive. I think he’s just gonna get better each week.”“We’re really high on Anthony,” Franklin said of starting right tackle Anthony Donkoh. “Can’t have enough guys that are 6-5-plus... and move like him.”“We’ve got a ton of confidence in him, based on what he did all training camp and all spring ball,” Franklin said of K Sander Sahydak, who missed a 47-yarder at the end of the game. “And I know he’ll make the next one.
