Nasser Hospital, which had been the largest functioning medical center in Gaza, is now out of service due to a raid by Israeli forces, the WHO and Hamas-run health ministry said Sunday. The ministry says Israel arrested about 70 health care workers and trapped others in the complex without electricity, food or water. The Israeli military claims it has evidence of Hamas operating at Nasser, which the group denies.
Israel's prime minister says he will press on with plans for a ground operation in the southern city of Rafah, despite dire warnings about the fate of 1.5 million people sheltering there. France and Egypt expressed 'firm opposition' to the plan Saturday. Some Palestinians have fled Rafah for the central city of Deir al-Balah, but strikes there killed dozens of people over the weekend, according to a local hospital. Israel said it struck Hamas targets in the area.
