A major incident has been declared after a stabbing involving a "number of casualties". Merseyside Police was called to Hart Street inA spokesperson for the force said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in Southport following a major incident this morning, Monday 29 July. At around 11.50am, we were called to a property on Hart Street to reports of a stabbing.
One man, who has been helping to direct traffic next to the scene, told the Echo: “I saw a man from the ARV come out the cordon and he was white as a sheet. He just shook his head and I thought he was going to cry.”Alder Hey Children's Hospital have declared a "major incident" and for parents to avoid the area.
So far, NWAS has treated eight patients with stab injuries who have been taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport and Formby hospital.Statement from Merseyside's Police & Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell. She said: "It was about 20 past 12 I think and we heard loads of sirens and then there was a helicopter circling above.
The woman said she ran down the street telling her neighbours to lock their doors and windows and that one of her neighbours had 'barricaded' herself and her kids in their bedroom.Eyewitnesses living in Maghull, Ainsdale and the surrounding areas have also described seeing and hearing the sirens and police helicopter.
They said: “Police haven’t spoken to us, but we heard that nobody is to go inside that building. Police are around 200m down the road from us. They’ve closed the entire road now.”Eyewitnesses have said there are dozens of police cars at the scene and a helicopter is also circling above the scene.
