One person was arrested as residents clashed with the police in Kagiso on Thursday.
Earlier, residents were seen chasing after a group of suspected illegal miners hiding among the mine dumps.
The protestors found 10 holes believed to be used by illegal miners. Group of residents have been seen pelting stones and empty bottles at officers. The police have retaliated by firing rubber bullets.
