Maimane says voters want an alternative because they have lived for 70 years with nationalism - first Afrikaner nationalism, then African nationalism. He says if the coalition is only about removing the ANC/EFF, it will alienate the voters who must be part of the democracy.Zibi says a coalition is almost a given and challenges Steenhuisen and the others to have respect for the voters and political system to present a plan.
Zibi questions the productivity of the exchange between Mashaba and Steenhuisen after being asked why he turned up his nose on the"Moonshot pact"."This is the squabbling we need to move past. This is the runway we need to really have these discussions. This is a matter that is under discussion. It is a live conversation, and nothing is off the table. Let's use the next 12-15 months to have these conversations," Steenhuisen says.
He says Steenhuisen can explain better why they didn't want the PA. Mashaba says the PA left because of the way they were treated. Steenhuisen says there is no point going into government with people who are going to do exactly what you want to remove.He says this is exactly the type of squabbles they need to sort out.Steenhuisen agrees with Maimane that this is a pivotal point in the country's history.
