The incident occurred on the major motoray through Wakefield
, on the northbound carriageway between junctions 39 and 40, before 1.40pm today, Sunday, September 24. The lorry is currently facing the wrong way in lane one and police have requested the vehicle is recovered.
National Highways has said delays of at least 15 minutes can be expected with lanes one and two, of four in total, remaining closed.Traffic data site Inrix said: "Queueing traffic and two lanes closed due to vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road on M1 Northbound from J39 A636 Denby Dale Road to J40 A638 Wakefield Road .
"Lane one and two remain closed following a hold. There is a lorry facing the wrong way in lane one." National Highways said: "The M1 has re-opened northbound between J39 and J40 near Wakefield following a police-led incident. Recovery of the vehicle has now been requested, and a lane 1 and 2 closure remains in place.
