LIVE | Lesufi gives latest update into Tembisa Hospital and other investigations
Lesufi says former Gauteng premier David Makhura entered into a"strategic agreement" with the SIU to investigate some of the matters. The update will include matters referred to Chapter Nine institutions such as the Special Investigating Unit, National Prosecuting Authority and the Office of the Public Protector.Premier Panyaza Lesufi has just arrived to give an update on investigative reports on Anglo Ashanti, Tembisa Hospital, Driving Licence Testing Centres among others.
The investigations sought to uncover maladministration, fraud and corruption, and any other wrongdoing in the institutions.Hospital spokesperson Noko Pela acknowledged the presence of the Hawks in the building and she could not comment further on the matter. The Hawks are currently in the administration section collecting documents, allegedly related to corruption.The Tembisa Hospital raid comes several months after hospital CEO Ashley Mthunzi was placed on precautionary suspension, alongside Gauteng Health CFO Lerato Madyo.The former was at the helm of the hospital when a spending surge, first detected by Deokaran, saw expenditure outstrip larger hospitals in the province's network.
