'While the Prime Minister was talking we were watching dozens of migrants being escorted off a boat.' Sky's Madeline Ratcliffe says the two boats they have seen come in this morning not only had men onboard but children too. 📺 Sky 501 and YouTube

Priti Patel is now addressing the news conference in Kigali, Rwanda.

"The tragic loss of life of people in the Channel and in the Med at the hands of these evil people smugglers must stop," she said. The home sec added:"This is part of the UK's new plan for immigration, to contain our borders, protect our communities, stop dangerous illegal migration, help the world's most desperate people and welcome international talents to the UK."News conference taking place in Rwanda

Boris Johnson acknowledged removing people to Rwanda is also likely to be contested. So what's going on? Already this morning we've seen around 20 migrants brought in on a lifeboat . Mainly men, they were huddled together with their blankets having been rescued, we think, from the sea. They were then taken ashore and on to a bus for processing.

This new model will see those arriving"dangerously, illegally or unnecessarily" to the UK relocated"to have their claims for asylum considered and, if recognised as refugees, to build their lives there". The PM's claim that there is"no other option" than the policy being set out today is effectively an admission of failure.

The PM was asked by ITV why the government is sending people fleeing persecution to a country where there are reports of ill-treatment and torture in detention centres. He went on to claim that Rwanda has"totally transformed" in recent decades, adding:"We are making sure that we have a very very high degree of confidence about the way people will be received."The PM was then asked whether his aim is to bring illegal migration numbers down, and what he will do if this plan fails.
