A senate inquiry examining why Victoria walked away from hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games is holding hearings in the regional city of Bendigo. Follow live.

Ballarat Deputy Mayor Amy Johnson and councillor Ben Taylor are now calling into the hearing.

"I find it incredibly frustrating that that expectation was there, that we re-allocate our resources and the attention of our council and our finite organisational resources for preparing for the Games," Ms Johnson says. "We were working through even more compressed timelines than would normally be the case and yes, there were always some big challenges in that."
