1h agoWe're going to be at it until midnight.Compared to the policy conference, only about 1 500 delegates are currently at Nasrec.Mashatile says there were business people at the gala dinner held on Thursday, and the party managed to raise funds.Mashatile says “comrades” had to pay registration fees to attend the policy conference. The fee “wasn't cheap”.|"The ANC should reflect integrity, being selfless, discipline and putting people first.
He says the party may have had a million members, but the poor quality of many of them has weakened the organisation.This is, of course, nothing new, and the lament about corrupt comrades stretches back a couple of party elective cycles, certainly back to Polokwane in 2007, the first elective conference I attended.Mashatile says the growth of the ANC with its million members wasn't an entirely positive outcome because its membership quality wasn't monitored.
He says they rely on the private sector for 70% of their income, but that if they stop paying, there's no money. The party will no go to government and lobby for an increase in political party funding. That's a pretty hefty salary bill for a club!Mashatile says the ANC struggling to pay its workers isn't a new problem. He says he took over the treasurer position when the party faced historic debt of close to R300 million, and an R18 million month wage bill.
