In one archival clip, he argues that he was better accepted as a result of emphasizing his queerness ; in another, he tellsthat “I was one of the first gay people to come out” before “God let me know that he made Adam to be with Eve, not Steve!” And at the peak of his fame, he has a vision that angels save his flight to Australia from crashing, renounces rock & roll and its decadent lifestyle, and enrolls in Bible school.
