Multiple fire crews responded to a third-alarm fire at Sunnking on Owens Road in Brockport , Monday, Aug. 26, 2024. Brockport , N.Y. — Multiple fire crews from Monroe and Orleans Counties responded to a third-alarm fire in Brockport near Route 31 Monday evening.
Around 5:35 p.m., fire crews responded to Sunnking on Owens Road for a report of smoke and fire showing.the public information officer for the Brockport Fire District, said lithium-ion batteries were involved in the fire, and as a result of that, the Fire Chief declared a Level 0 hazmat situation. "That activates some county resources to assist with mitigation and with the extinguishment of the fire," explained Martin.Crews from Hamlin-Morton-Walker Fire District, Spencerport Fire District, Gates Fire District Headquarters, Murray Joint Fire District, Kendall Fire Company, Bergen Fire Department and Chili Fire Department helped at the scene.firefighter needed to be evaluated for possible heat exhaustion and was treated and released.
"The heat always poses a challenge for us, but we have supplies on all the apparatus. We have water to keep firefighters hydrated, they have timers on their airpacks and when they timeout on the airpack, they have to come out for a new bottle, but they also have to get evaluated before they return to the fire, so we take steps to ensure the health and wellness of our firefighters," said Martin.
