Yvonne Chaka Chaka and the Mzansi Youth Choir are honouring women in their new song.
While the spirit of Women's Month in SA has been dampened by the murder of 20-year-old Wits University student Asithandile “Kwasa” Zozo and other unnamed victims, the Mzansi Youth Choir and legendary Yvonne Chaka Chaka have released a song to honour women.
The choir, who represented the country in the recent World Choir Games, has released a new single titled“I am happy to have worked with the Mzansi Youth Choir to celebrate our women. Women are an ocean, nurturing and strong. Let us all recognise their worth,” said the singer. The song was composed by the choir’s musical director, Sidumo Nyamezele, who said it is a"thank you letter to the mothers of the nation"., is an ode to the women of this country, thanking them for all they have done in bringing us up and taking care of all our needs,” said Sidumo.“It is inspired by the women we always have surrounding us — the grannies in the neighbourhood supporting us, our mom’s cheering us on, and those making sure we make it,” said Sidumo.
“Having to record partially and on various days due to this pandemic, stitching it all together has been challenging, but we’re making it work.”
