Last week, I was getting a blowout when my hairstylist reached for a secret product from her station: a tube of Kérastase Thermique. She kept it hidden, she told me, because it wasn’t the salon’s proprietary brand—but she felt like my hair needed it. “Do you watch Housewives?” I asked. “Oh my God, Lisa Barlow ,” she laughed. Here’s what happened. In the December 4 episode of the reality show, the Salt Lake wives are celebrating Meredith Marks’s bat mitzvah when Angie Katsanevas and Britani Bateman get into a tiff about who, well, dresses sluttier. Insults fly back and forth, and Katsanevas—who owns a salon with her husband—tells Bateman she has “high body count hair” and to “take her little Bump-it and walk away.” Lisa Barlow attempts to comfort Bateman, and in doing so, delivers an all-time one-liner: “Don’t let her hurt your feelings. But you know what? You do need Kérastase Thermatique.” Memes documenting the backhanded—if well-intentioned—line popped up instantaneously. The product—which is really a range of heat protectants for different hair types—is actually called Kérastase Thermique. And viewers demanded to know which one Barlow recommends. “These two are my faves,” Barlow posted to Twitter/X with photos of Ciment Thermique Heat Protecting Cream for damaged hair, and Nectar Thermique Heat Protecting Cream for thick, dry hair. In a franchise where paid product placements are often shoehorned into episodes, the Kérastase moment was as refreshing as it was genuinely entertaining.
