Many Houston soccer fans are buzzing after Lionel Messi changed the landscape of American soccer Wednesday by choosing to leave Europe and continue his career in MLS with Inter Miami.

Julian Rios, a local soccer fan from Argentina, said Messi moving to the U.S. will have a big impact on the country’s growing soccer culture,“It’s going to bring all types of eyes to the U.S. and soccer,” he said. “We’ve been missing out here in the States.”A manager at the Galleria-area Argentine restaurant Little Patagonia, Rios said Messi’s move could also be good for Houston businesses when the 35-year-old star eventually visits with Inter Miami.
Last December’s World Cup was a busy time for Little Patagonia, and the frenzy offered a glimpse of what game day could one day be like for local businesses and Messi’s fanbase in Houston. When Lionel Messi and Argentian played in World Cup final last year, it was a big draw in Houston.
