The reality TV star spoke to TODAY.com ahead of the series premiere of the new “Summer House” spinoff, “In the City.”
First, there’s the debut of Bravo’s new series “In the City,” which will see Lindsay, fellow “Summer House” vets and some newcomers showcasing their lives in New York.
It premieres May 19, immediately following the Season 10 finale of “Summer House,” the Hamptons-centric show on which Hubbard has been a fixture since its inception in 2017. Then, there’s the “Summer House” Season 10 reunion airing in three parts — on May 26, June 2 and June 9 — to an audience eager to see the fallout from the bombshell reveal by cast members Amanda Batula and West Wilson that they’ve struck up a relationship.on Instagram March 31 and sent shockwaves through the Bravoverse.
This came two months after Amanda and Kyle Cooke, her “Summer House” co-star and husband of four years, announced their separation, and as viewers were watching Amanda’s best friend Ciara Miller and West, who are exes, rekindle their romance in new episodes of “Summer House. ”Courtesy Deitch + Pham In the walk-up to those releases, Lindsay hosted an event centered on a topic that hits close to home: skin care for herself and her 1-year-old daughter, Gemma.
Partnering with Aveeno Baby & Kids, Lindsay led a community walk with the brand in the Brooklyn borough of New York City on May 16.
“With Gemma, she has been accustomed from a very early age about skin care,” she tells TODAY.com. “I think that just as much as we as adults, as women, as moms really take care of our skin, I think that we should do that with our babies as well.
” Just before her community event with Aveeno, TODAY.com caught up with Lindsay to talk about the upcoming premiere of “In the City” and her daughter’s TV debut — and, yes, that “Summer House” scandal, too.
“In the City” is about to premiere. How much is Gemma a part of the show? I feel like people have gotten lost in the sauce with this whole scandal lately, and I appreciate you actually like asking me about it.star of the show. It’s not me, it’s not Kyle.
It’s Gemma. She took her first steps on camera. Again, she’s a star. And yeah, she’s in it with me.
“In the City” is about our lives in that next chapter and phase, right? ... It’s a lot of our friends who are in that next chapter where people are married. People have babies.
People are trying to figure out if they should have babies. Like real life, adult conversations and decisions that need to be made. And you get to see a day-to-day inside look into my life. You get to see Gemma, and it’s really sweet.
I’m actually really excited to look at that footage back from the fall, because they change so much. I’m probably going to cry every episode. Is there anything you’re most excited for longtime viewers to see about your life that they haven’t seen before in “Summer House”? People and fans and viewers have been really wanting to see more of our city life.
They’ve been requesting it over the last couple of years.
“Summer House” is a show based in the Hamptons, so, yes, we can go to lunches and dinners and events in the city, but this is our entire lives in the city. Fan and viewer request is our command here. So I think it’ll be fun. I also think it’s a niche age, right?
That has been missing from reality television. We are in our 30s and 40s. We are growing up and making some of the biggest decisions of our entire lives in this moment, and you guys are going to see it all.to film the aftermath involving Amanda and West. Were you involved in that filming?
What is the status of filming? I feel like our group ... it’s almost like we need to get these cameras up every single day, because something new is happening every day. Was I involved? Yes, I was in that pickup situation.
There are multiple pickups, and we also have two different TV shows to toggle between. So I don’t know where anything’s going or what’s going to happen. I don’t make those decisions. But yes, I’m obviously always very involved.
I’m a very involved person. I literally tell them all the time. I’m like, “Put a camera here, put a camera there, and just roll,” because the weirdest stuff goes down in this house. I don’t have any expectations in these situations.
I don’t know what to expect ever. Weird stuff happens in our world. I would say the filming was very intense. It was very dramatic.
And it is going to be a fun watch for viewers. Carl Radke was just on “Watch What Happens Live” and said kind things about your friendship and where you stand now. Do you agree with his characterization of the status of your friendship? Is that what you want from him going forward?
I thought he did a great job on “Watch What Happens Live,” and I do agree with his characterization of the status of our friendship. I thought he did great. Even since the reunion — which, we filmed the reunion three weeks ago — I would say, we have been together more in doing different press. And we were at a friend’s birthday on Saturday.
So we kind of just keep running into each other, depending on whatever we’re doing. I think that’s helpful. But we have a very long overdue conversation on episode of “Summer House,” and that was sort of the starting point to rebuilding whatever it is that we’re rebuilding. And I think that that was a much needed conversation.
And now, ... it’s a slow build, but I would say we’re really friendly. We’re in a good place. I look forward to being around him now more than I have in the last couple of years. You defended that decision after some people were criticizing it. What do you hope to get out of that conversation? I don’t know what my goals are with the conversation. The whole thing is wild, right?
Again, I don’t have a lot of expectations in my world. I just sort of take it at face value and see what happens and deal with it as it comes. With Amanda, we got really close over the last year — specifically the last year. And there were a lot of feelings on my side about this entire scandal and the decisions that she made.
I think that she also doesn’t have a lot of friends around her to tough love her. I think it’s more just sitting in a comfortable, intimate setting and making sure that I can ask more questions. Girl, at this point, all my questions are equal. There’s a lot.
There’s a lot of questions in there. But, I mean, the reunion’s airing soon, and you guys are going to find out a lot there. And I think, this is more toward continuing to find more out. Again, everything happens — something happens every single day.
So it’s just, like, get the cameras on. Do you plan on returning? And what do you think is the future of this group with the scandal so fresh? Great question.
Upfronts was, like, three days ago. I mean, I’m sure I’m going to be around. I’m always around. I live in New York, I go to the Hamptons.
... I think we’re all just like, “OK, a new summer. A new season. ” We’ll see what happens.
