Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo calls tax increase 'historic step' for flood resilience
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo thanked voters for approving a tax increase to fund maintenance of the county's extensive flood control infrastructure, calling it 'a historic step toward making Harris County fully flood resilient.' TAX HIKE: Harris County property taxes are going up.
Flood control leadership is already working on plans to scale up their current maintenance programs, according to the agency, which said in a social media post that they are 'grateful for the thoughtful decision by voters across the county.' The tax hike is aimed at closing what has become an increasingly large funding gap, Hidalgo said.
