The National Institute of Communicable Diseases has confirmed the report, with the MEC saying the patient is a Zimbabwean national.
"This is a case of a 26-year-old Zimbabwean national who presented at Musina Hospital on the 26th of May with a severe form of diarrhoea, vomiting and dehydration," said Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba. She said the Limpopo case appears to be linked to the cholera outbreak in Beitbridge district in neighbouring Zimbabwe.She's reiterated the department's state of readiness to deal with a possible spread of infections in Musina.
The water-borne disease has already claimed the lives of at least 23 people in Hammanskraal in Gauteng.The Limpopo cholera case will add to the reported 114 confirmed cases in Gauteng and Free State.
