Limpopo police crack down on crime, immigration as thousands arrested

The Safer Festive Season Operations in Limpopo saw over 26 000 crime suspects arrested, provincial commissioner of the SA Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe said. The operation was launched in October 2022.

"Our organised crime unit has been hard at work in hunting down syndicates dealing in drugs within the province and they busted syndicates operating in Matlerekeng and Waterberg." One such is the case of a 32-year-old man who has since been sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment for the rape and murder of his ex-girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter in Burgersfort.

She said the suspect was terrorising communities with robberies around Dennilton, Matlerekeng, including Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga. During the arrest, police recovered one firearm and 64 live ammunition.
