Apart from two names that were nominated by the branches earlier, the Limpopo ANC provincial conference offered no major surprises when delegates began nominating their preferred candidates for the top five officials on Saturday morning
The conference started off peacefully, with none of the antagonism experienced at other ANC conferences this year. The contentious issue of credentials – deciding who had a right to vote – had been completed on Friday, allowing the rest of the programme to continue as planned.
Msiza’s protégé Reuben Madadzhe’s name was nominated by an overwhelming majority, to much ululation and cheering in the packed Protea Ranch centre. Heartened by the mood, Madadzhe accepted the nomination. The list of candidates for the top five officials was concluded by the nominations of Livhuwani Ligaraba and Basikopo Makamu for the position of deputy secretary.
