"It feels like you are drinking from a fire hose with no way to control that flow," Dr. John Hick, an emergency physician at Hennepin Healthcare in Minnesota, told reporters Tuesday."I have been practicing for 25 years in the emergency department and every shift I am working these days is like the worst shift in my career.

"I think one of the biggest contributors to burnout and PTSD symptoms is powerlessness. And I think that's what an awful lot of our providers are experiencing right now. And, as Jessi mentioned, there's no way to fix that right now. I mean, we've got to have all hands on deck."Gold doesn't see the problems ending any time soon."It's not like Covid's going to stop and all of a sudden, we're magically better," she said.
