The program was created for economic relief during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring households can pay for water in their homes.With utility costs rising nationwide as inflation weighs on many communities, LIHWAP offers aid to eligible customers that have water services through public pipelines.Georgia residents who want to see if they qualify for the assistance must schedule an appointment through their local Community Action Agency. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, states have until Dec. 31 to liquefy the LIHWAP funds, meaning grant recipients must liquidate or expend funds by this deadline.
