"I'm skipping and tripping this morning on the great honor of being a Tony nominee as an actor,” Bareilles wrote via Instagram at the time. “It means more to me than I know how to express because my deepest hope for being invited into the precious world of theater was that I could honor that invitation with good work. This feels like a day that my effort to show up sincerely has been acknowledged and I'm in tears and in gratitude.
Days later, striking members of the Writers Guild of America announced that they will not picket the Tonys, signaling that the awards show will air after all. “The Writers Guilds of America East and West will not negotiate an interim agreement or a waiver for the Tony Awards,” the statement read. “However, Tony Awards Productions has communicated with us that they are altering this year’s show to conform with specific requests from the WGA, and therefore the WGA will not be picketing the show. Responsibility for having to make changes to the format of the 2023 Tony Awards rests squarely on the shoulders of Paramount/CBS and their allies.
The statement concluded: “As they have stood by us, we stand with our fellow workers on Broadway who are impacted by our strike.”Broadway’s biggest night kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on, where the first awards and performances will be revealed. Julianne Hough and Skyler Astin will helm the two-hour broadcast before the party continues on
