Torrential rain battered the city as people turned out to see the festive truck this evening
People described seeing 'the lights go out' on the Coca-Cola truck in Liverpool as Storm Darragh battered the city with torrential rain. The Coca-Cola truck arrived in Speke at midday today and was open to visitors with the aim of 'making kindness travel'. Visitors were to be greeted with an ice-cold Coca-Cola Zero Sugar under a canopy of twinkling lights and festive music.
The Met Office said between 50-70mm of rain is expected to fall in northern parts of England. More widely 15-25mm of rain is possible across the warning area. Gusts of up to 80mph are possible around western coasts, with 40-60mph gusts more widely across the warning area. Several roads have already been closed in Merseyside due to heavy flooding, including Queens Dive in the Mossley Hill area. Buses have been diverted and train lines cancelled as heavy rain continues to fall.
