Spicewood Fire Rescue and Marble Falls Fire Rescue responded to two separate structure fires in the Thunder Rock neighborhood beginning at 2:22 a.m. Monday. A second lightning strike ignited a nearby home just four minutes later, at 2:26 a.m., prompting a large mutual aid response. A Spicewood Fire command officer who lives in the neighborhood was able to quickly alert residents of the first home to evacuate before crews arrived. That house sustained minor damage.
The second home was a total loss. Spicewood Fire took primary responsibility at the second structure while Marble Falls Fire Rescue worked the first. Seven additional agencies assisted across both scenes: Horseshoe Bay Fire Department, Granite Shoals Fire Rescue, Sunrise Beach Fire Department, Marble Falls Police Department, the Burnet County Sheriff's Office, Highland Lakes Regional Emergency Communications Center, and Pedernales Fire Department.
