BREAKING Lightning prompts L.A. County lifeguards to close beaches from Cabrillo to Hermosa
Some parts of Southern California began to see light rain and thunderstorms Wednesday as cool temperatures settled over the region thanks to a low-pressure system.Lightning was observed in the South Bay on Wednesday morning, prompting the closure of beaches from Cabrillo Beach to Hermosa Beach, officials said.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department's Lifeguard Division announced the temporary shutdowns, which included Redondo Beach, shortly before 10 a.m. "Lifeguards are clearing the water and advising patrons on the beach to seek shelter," the agency said on Twitter, adding that lifeguards were working with the National Weather Service to monitor the storm cell."A stubborn area of low pressure aloft will likely linger of the region through the remainder of the week, and keep a showery and unsettled weather pattern in place," according to the Weather Service.
Forecasters noted that the unstable weather system will "threaten the area with thunderstorms and locally heavy rain."
