Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot faced hurdles in her investigation into alleged financial mismanagement in the village of Dolton , Illinois, but ultimately completed the probe. Lightfoot, who lacked subpoena power , acknowledged the challenges but asserted she achieved her goals. The investigation uncovered irregularities including over $218,000 spent on Amazon purchases and more than $51,000 at local restaurants, all using village credit cards between January 2021 and June 2024.
Lightfoot delved into 48 lawsuits filed against the village, 12 of which involved alleged Freedom of Information Act violations. She also examined two trips taken to Las Vegas by the mayor, finding no resulting business opportunities. Despite her efforts, Lightfoot stated that the mayor's ex-assistant, who claimed assault by a trustee during the 2023 trip, and other key witnesses did not cooperate.Looking ahead, Lightfoot expressed confidence that the village will move forward constructively, emphasizing the importance of transparency and good governance. She noted that the new administration is already implementing some of her recommendations regarding finance and personnel. Lightfoot anticipates setting up a website to address outstanding questions from the investigation. Efforts to reach Dolton Mayor, Tiffany Henyard's attorney for comment were unsuccessful
