Light snow and a wintry mix are in the forecast to start Christmas Eve in New Jersey . The potential for a glaze of ice in southern New Jersey could make travel challenging.Snow is already falling across northern New Jersey as of 7 a.m. Forecasters are calling for less than an inch of snow across much of the state, though some spots in Morris and Passaic counties could top the 1 inch mark, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather advisory is in effect through 1 p.m.

in Camden, Gloucester, Salem and northwestern Burlington counties, where a glaze of ice is possible. “If you’re traveling this morning, slow down and use extra caution as roads could become icy or snowy,” the National Weather Service said early Tuesday. “Temperatures warming above freezing this afternoon should help alleviate any slippery road conditions.” High temperatures on Tuesday will be in the upper 30s to low 40s, below normal for this time of year. Overnight lows will be in the 20s. “Given the continued below normal temperatures and additional light snowfall today, some areas from around Trenton and north into northern New Jersey, the Lehigh Valley, and southern Poconos could experience a White Christmas this year,” the weather service said. The forecast for Christmas Day calls for sunny skies with high temperatures again in the 30s and low 40s. There’s a chance of some stray flurries on Wednesday night, the weather service said. Similar conditions are expected through Saturday with temperatures rising a bit into the weekend before a chance for rain on Sunday into Monday
