The Department of Transportation on Tuesday said the 24/7 operations for the free rides on EDSA Busway will start on an earlier date, December 1, 2022.In a statement, the DOTr said Secretary Jaime Bautista directed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to implement the 24/7 operations earlier.
"Ang inisyatibong ito ng DOTr at LTFRB ay paraan upang siguruhin na may masasakyan ang lahat ng ating mga pasahero beyond the usual operating hours sa EDSA Busway,” he said. The 24/7 operations of Libreng Sakay are in light of the expected influx of passengers during the Christmas season and the adjusted mall hours in Metro Manila from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
According to the DOTr, the LTFRB will issue a Board Resolution to formalize the December 1 implementation under the Service Contracting Program. On August 16, the Department of Budget and Management provided P1.4 billion additional funds to extend the free rides on EDSA Busway.
