Payne tragically died at the age of 31 after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Argentina’s capital of Buenos Aires on Wednesday, 16 October. He embarked on a solo career after One Direction announced they were going to take an indefinite break in 2015. Payne had spoken publicly about his struggles with alcohol, and local police said they responded to a report of “an aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol”.
Buenos Aires emergency medical service head Alberto Crescenti told local television that there had been “no possibility of resuscitation”.
