One of the best grand tourers ever, the Lexus LC, is bowing out this year; the 2026 Lexus LC 500 will die at the end of August.
We come bearing sad news today: Lexus LC production is ending later this year. This news initially broke via a letter to dealers that has since been posted on Reddit. The letter states that production of the LC will continue through August 2026, but it won’t see September.
Road Track confirmed the news with Lexus, receiving this official statement from a spokesperson: 'The Lexus LC 500 will officially be discontinued after the 2026 model year. Lexus constantly evaluates its model mix and strategy to optimize product lineup options to meet our guests’ needs and align with consumer demand.'The letter sent to dealers feels like an ode to the LC 500, marching through its accomplishments and summarizing the big changes throughout its nine-year production run. Lexus says that total sales for the LC just passed 15,000 in December 2025, making it a seriously low-volume vehicle. Our last go in the LC was in a Coupe on a long road trip; you can read all about it here. Lexus introduced the convertible variant for 2021, making it all the easier to enjoy the howl of that naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8. It’s easy to forget, but there was also a Lexus LC 500h, a hybrid variant that was a rather odd duck. Lexus quietly killed the hybrid for the final model year, but it was technically sold through 2025. And if you thought LC sales in general were low, the hybrid will be unbelievably rare; Lexus says it sold only eight hybrids in all of 2024.There should be a wide variety of colors and builds out there to choose from on the used market, as Lexus offered a number of its Inspiration Series models throughout the LC’s run. On top of that, Lexus let folks customize their spec through its Bespoke program, a privilege you won’t find for most other Lexus models. This news doesn’t come as a surprise, as it was reported in 2025 that the following year might be the model’s last. Lexus doesn’t have an immediate replacement for the LC, but it’s already revealed a new, electric LFA Concept—so alongside Toyota’s GR GT, it looks like big, performance coupes aren’t going anywhere. Given the level of performance this new era of Toyota/Lexus products are aiming at, though, don’t expect them to be anywhere near the LC 500’s price that starts at $101,700 in its final year on sale.
