MacLeod is back at Ibrox nine years after leaving and he's hoping to make his mark again - this time as a coach.
Lewis MacLeod is back at Rangers nine years after leaving as he continues his coaching journey back where he feels at home.
The 29-year-old was forced into an early retirement in 2022 after a succession of serious injuries left him unable to continue. A one-time academy graduate at Ibrox, he was a key part of their rise through the leagues under Ally McCoist and was sold to Brentford in 2015. But injuries ravaged his time down south, MacLeod going on to play sporadically for Wigan and Plymouth Argyle - before making his retirement official in 2022.
Since then he's spent time back coaching at Brentford but now returns to Ibrox working with the under-14 side. However he's hoping it can lead to a rise up the coaching ranks, as he's told Philippe Clement and his staff he's ready to take on any role that's asked of him. He told the club website: "It feels really good to be back.
“I’m really enjoying this side of football. I’m part-time with the 14s, we train three times a week and have a game at the weekend - usually on a Sunday. I am focused on that age group but if I am needed elsewhere I am happy to help out and I’m enjoying every minute of it. “I wasn’t expecting to retire as early as I did but I was always interested in coaching. To retire because of injury at 29 is obviously difficult but on the other side it is good to get into coaching so quickly. Hopefully this will stand me in good stead for years to come. You learn here every day and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. I’m going to enjoy every minute and see where it takes me.
