Readers were glad the vice presidential debate was more civilized; call out John Jun and Morgan Meyer for supporting vouchers; and discuss the campaigns of Cruz and Allred.Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. I also pray that it results in our Texas government abolishing the death penalty. I believe that life is sacred from conception to death and the state does not have the right to terminate a person’s life.editorial board. Neither live in HD 115, which is a pro-public school district. Abbott’s backing means one thing — Jun supports vouchers, which siphon public money away from our schools. We don’t need politicians like Jun pushing Abbott’s privatization agenda.
Cassandra Hernandez, on the other hand, is the real advocate for public schools. She’s already fighting to make sure our kids get the resources they deserve. Vote Hernandez and protect our schools.We received a campaign flyer that promotes state Rep. Morgan Meyer as a “Champion for Children” and that he’s in favor of “Higher Pay for Teachers, “More Money for Schools, and “Higher Quality Schools for Children.
Yes, the bill would increase the base amount allocated to districts per student — from $6,160 to $6,700 and includes a one-time $4,000 bonus for full-time personnel. But the proposed voucher program would also allow private school students to receive about $10,000 for private school tuition.Not only would vouchers hurt public schools in Texas cities, it would decimate smaller Texas communities where the local public school is a family’s only choice.
