Letters to the Editor

Readers don’t mind the tipping requests; don’t believe Robert Roberson should be executed; say calling out animosity should include both parties; and worry about no shoulders on express lanes.Contributing columnist Dallas Cothrum says tipflation is out of control. Companies should pay their employees a living wage rather than passing that responsibility along with the "screen turn of shame.

For a state that is allegedly pro-life, its leaders sure seem eager to put a man to death, despite the fact that little if anything is to be gained for doing so and much to lose. Whether the actions by Robert Roberson III actually caused his daughter’s death is clearly unknown: One could say it’s “up for debate,” but that’s not how things should work in the legal system, particularly when a man’s life is at stake.

Please, please don’t print these misleading assertions in an opinion calling to reduce partisan animosity. And just an aside, I see zero efforts by the former president and his people to tone it down. Every action he is taking is more outrageous than the last. He routinely emboldens his folks to threaten the Democrats.Mazey suggests that the more qualified Democratic judicial candidates should consider joining the Republican Party.

Judges are expected to administer justice impartially from the bench. So why should they be required — or allowed — to disclose their political loyalties when seeking such an office? Contrary to Mazey’s suggestion, there are no Republican or Democratic seats on a judicial bench. In his letter, Geier asked for “a relatively neutral webpage for all candidates that describes what they stand for.” The nonpartisan League of Women Voters does this with Vote411.

If they won’t answer those questions, I figure they are either clueless or have something to hide, and I won’t vote for them.Plano recently experienced a fatal accident on the HOV lane on Central Expressway due to a stalled car. A few years ago, it happened on an ice-covered Fort Worth toll road with multiple deaths. For over a century, we have required fire exit doors on public buildings on the very slim chance a major fire may break out in the building.
