Politics for Teens leaders speak about the gun restriction debate during a meeting at Plano West Senior High School on May 18, 2023, in Plano, Texas.— Re: “Students strive to bridge the partisan divide — Club gives space for teens to engage with political topics through diverse perspectives,” Sunday Metro story.

Out of the darkness and desperation currently enveloping our divisive country, a beacon of light is emerging from a public high school in Plano, where it appears a group of students is choosing to prepare for the political challenges ahead. Part of that preparation is a discussion group called Politics for Teens. The Plano West Senior High School students use this club to bridge the partisan divide challenging their futures. They have rediscovered the art of comity when talking about current political issues.

These students recognize the need for factual information, which has to be carefully filtered from the internet, and the need to listen to on another’s opinions. Their discussions serve to remind us of the capabilities too many of us have abandoned in trying to win today’s political arguments.
