Letters to the Editor

America is witnessing a great political realignment. Our Editorial Board explores how the ideas and ideals that have defined each of the two major parties have shifted gradually at first and now rapidly in ways that are making our politics more toxic and less predictable.Re: “America’s Shifting Political Sand — The major parties have swung far away from the ideals many of us hold, setting the stage for a realignment,” March 3 editorial.

I can definitely say that the MAGA faithful do not match the majority’s views based on their actions and comments. However, to say that Democrats and liberals in general are of the same ilk is not a match. The systemic problems of politics have separated the people, and each party has stepped to the extreme, leaving no room for the middle. People no longer have faith in the government. What does it mean when only 16% of people trust the federal government? What does it mean when 67% of American voters don’t trust either Donald Trump or Joe Biden? And prefer other candidates? This editorial presents a very conservative viewpoint.

Since I don’t watch Fox News or read other ultraconservative media publications, I assume that is where you got it. No mention of Jan. 6, or the Freedom Caucus, or that two-thirds of Republicans believe the 2020 election was stolen — just to mention some of the big items not addressed in the opinion!Your editorial concludes that “the middle has to find ways to create new political homes.” There is a way if we would only grasp it before time runs out.
