All of us will continue to make mistakes every day. The difference here is before the employment offer was made, someone needed to run the traps. I don’t like what was done, but admire that she took the high road.Re: “What’s behind the hullabaloo at Texas A&M? Journalism program debacle was A&M president’s fault,” by Adam Kolasinski, July 30 Opinion.
The gaslit twisting of our nation’s bedrock tenets makes a mockery of what most of our citizens believe. The sad fact is that Texas is run by a cabal of GOP autocrats. Diversity in higher education? Not on their watch.Re: “What’s behind the hullabaloo at Texas A&M? Rejection of professor was backlash against Black progress,” by Cynthia Tucker, July 30 Opinion.Tucker’s op-ed is rife with misguided assumptions and wrong conclusions.
And I do not believe that McElroy is saying that they should. To interpret her stance otherwise is disingenuous and grandstanding.The juxtaposition of the pieces written by Kolasinski and DeFrank perfectly encapsulates the problem for Aggies. DeFrank tries mightily to defend his school generally while admitting the lunacy of how the school treated an admired journalist and scholar. He also acknowledges how A&M fears all things liberal.
