GXC Inc CEO Genaro Cavazos speaks about his company’s “open gate system” used for weapons detection at the State Fair of Texas during a safety and security news conference at the Cotton Bowl, Aug. 8, 2024, in Dallas. The State Fair of Texas, with daily attendance ranging from 40,000 on a slow day, to an incredible 208,000 people on its busiest, is no place for guns. One person, carrying only one firearm, would have the potential to kill hundreds.
Gun deaths in Texas have increased 46% over the last decade and are the leading cause of death for Texas children. The Texas Legislature has not only refused to pass sensible gun laws, they have repeatedly passed laws such as permitless carry and “Stand Your Ground” that are making our state more dangerous.
I’m not sure how they should handle the Texas-Oklahoma football game. I guess Paxton will ensure Longhorns carry guns and probably not the Sooners. Oh well , marketing staff, get to work and start promoting both alternatives and see what the people choose. While I’ve never carried a firearm to the State Fair and it’s been legal for some time, I don’t think I would. There’d be an unfair advantage on the BB gun paper game and it’s probably uncomfortable on the tilt-a-whirl.
