On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we call for no celebration without legislation on voting rights and we need everyone to stand with us. Congress must deliver for voting rights.Paul Bacon, Hallandale Beach, Fla.Re: “McCarthy wins speaker’s post — Squeaker of a victory comes after midnight in 15th round of votes,” Jan. 7 news story.

My 2021 electronic return was also rejected, so a paper one was sent for a third time. Last month I got two letters. One said I overpaid my 2020 taxes. The second said I owed money and penalties for my 2021 return. I had to call to correct the error. Until I read this American Middle column, I did not realize there was a bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus in the House of Representatives. They are certainly low profile.

In the new House environment, the members of the Problem Solvers Caucus have their work cut out for them. I hope they can raise their profile and have success getting things done for the good of America.Re: “Cruz leads rebuke of Buttigieg — Senator says airlines’ grounding ‘latest example of dysfunction,’” Thursday news story.
