Leslie Barker’s Nov. 25 op-ed column described the power of saying thank you and reminded us that our American Thanksgiving holiday is all about remembering and being grateful. Why write this when the fact is teen boys are also targeted by such predators? Does a collective yet mostly subtle societal mindset still persist, that real men can take care of themselves and boys are basically little men? And if mainstream news media fail to fully realize this in their journalism, why would the rest of society?
They are also men. Why do we never say this? Mass shootings are overwhelmingly committed by men. A male friend recently suggested a solution. Gun ownership would require insurance, and the coverage would include violent actions and harm committed using the firearm.
