Letters to the Editor

Readers discuss pension details; warn voters to not believe all political ads; urge voting on a candidate’s deeds and not along party lines; and admit there is so little voter fraud in Texas.

As a civilian retiree, I don’t consider that “fundamentally unfair” because I never went to work worrying I’d be shot or have to run into a burning building. And as a Dallas taxpayer, I’m willing to pay to fix DPFP, because retirees deserve a stable pension. Just don’t misleadingly pit unforms against civilians.I am a registered Republican and have followed politics and many candidates for 50 years. I take exception to the words “corrupt” and “traitorous.

Ads produce emotional reactions by provoking fear, anger, or moral outrage. Constant repetition follows the theory that a lie told often enough eventually sounds true. An atmosphere in which people are encouraged, without any evidence at all, to report on fellow voters is reminiscent of the Stasi’s actions in communist East Germany.
