” didn’t work out all that well for Boeing, did it? Beyond the immediate effects, “self-certification” gives us corporate officials from various industries who become government regulators overseeing those same industries, appointed by both Republican and Democratic administrations. Construction “self-certification” is what any politician would suggest, at the behest of the real estate and building industries, to the detriment of the citizenry. I found the article about people worrying about surprise medical bills to be misleading. It cited a woman who is still saddled with medical bill debt from 20 years ago, but the article did not point out that the Affordable Care Act eliminated that happening once it was implemented in 2014. That was important to point out. Before the ACA, there were all kinds of ways for consumers to be saddled with medical debt, but now things are much better. I have Kaiser Senior Advantage, for example, which has more than 6,000 doctors in Northern California with all kinds of specialties. I rarely pay more than $5 for anything, whether it’s to see a doctor or to pay for a prescription. I have no worries about a surprise medical bill. I question the methodology used by the survey that found worries about housing or grocery costs are less than those for medical bills. Californians need to step up to abolish the actions of ICE in the San Francisco Area of Responsibility, which is many miles from our border. It is outrageous and illegal to round up brown people to fill some federal quota, to hold them in miserable conditions and then to deport them to random countries. All of this to fulfill some racist Make America White Again myth, and to aid in destroying our economy by eliminating a huge workforce and by denying our economy their spending power. We cannot allow this to continue another minute. ICE and Border Patrol have become Donald Trump’s personal militia, with undertrained and underregulated persons with more attitude than aptitude, which he feels he can deploy at his whim to create street theatre and drama: note the use of a chopper drop in Chicago and deaths in Minnesota. Stop. As someone who snowboards in Tahoe often, this issue stood out to me. The article explains how rising temperatures are affecting the Sierra Nevada snowpack, which many people rely on for winter recreation and tourism. This is concerning because places like Palisades Tahoe depend on consistent snowfall. If the snowpack continues to decline, it could hurt local businesses, reduce winter sports opportunities and damage the mountain environment. Protecting the snowpack should be a priority. Supporting environmental efforts and sustainable practices at ski resorts can help preserve these mountains. I encourage readers and local leaders to support policies that protect California’s snowpack so future generations can still experience Tahoe winters.Public conversation today feels less like dialogue and more like a tug-of-war. Every issue is framed as a choice between extremes with no middle ground. We are forced to pick sides and dismiss people who disagree. We fail to realize that more than 8 billion people live in this world, so it is foolish to assume everyone believes the same thing. We see division in politics, social media and communities. We do not have to agree with everything, but we also have to understand that not every issue is black and white. We have to relearn the concept of agreeing to disagree and peacefully co-exist with one another. If we want to progress as a society, we must stop polarizing every single topic and instead aim for bipartisanship and conversation.Harriette Cole: Even my husband laughed at our friend's mean comment about meHarriette Cole: I can't hide my drastic career pivot from my friends foreverParents of 4-year-old boy killed in Burlingame collision file wrongful death lawsuitGovernor’s race coming into ‘focus’ as Swalwell, Hilton lead new polls
