A reader urges a desalination plant to pull in water from the coast to San Antonio. Above is the Carlsbad Desalination Plant in California.Build a desalination plant in San Antonio, then pipe in seawater from the coast. Sell the salt from the water to make it pay for itself. It has been done on ships for years; it would be on a larger scale on land. If oil can be piped from Canada to the coast, then seawater can be piped from the coast to San Antonio.
Besides the advantage noted above, polylactic acid is more biodegradable than most plastics. The bad news is that our outdated phones, computers, flat-screen TVs and other “obsolete” techy stuff will lie in a landfill or beneath the sea for many decades before breaking down into molecules usable by plants or animals.
Is it too much to ask that people see some rules have to change accordingly? Isn’t that common sense?
